Yoko Ono

The Lennon family has aged gracefully. The Beatle great never was given the opportunity to grow old haphazardly a la his former songwriting partner. And with Sean releasing last year’s convincingly passionate Friendly Fire and Julian having recently posted surprisingly compelling material on his MySpace page, the Lennon offspring have matured into an embraceable pair. Which leaves only Yoko Ono remaining, John’s much maligned second wife — blamed by rabid Beatle fans for years for breaking up the band, when her only real crime was allowing an icon to fall in love with her. Even still today, she has upheld his estate and name with quiet reverence, all the while seeking out progressive and challenging artists and performers for her various projects despite the ’60s stigma that will forever follow her. With two records released this year, the 74 year-old remains much in the spotlight.
