The Polyphonic Spree, ‘Together We’re Heavy’

By • Jul 20th, 2004 • Category: Album Reviews

The Polyphonic Spree may be the only time in history a group with more than 20 people who wear matching white robes and name their songs in numerical order has no reason to be feared.

The band isn’t as creepy as it sounds, which is mostly due to its work with alternating lush harmonies in epic songs that flow together like the backdrop of a bizarre musical — not “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Cult references aside, the band is ultimately fronted by former Tripping Daisy front man Tim Delaughter and has found a niche in dense layers of strings, vocals and ambient structures around the seemingly abstract subjects.
