Professor Murder

By • Jul 1st, 2007 • Category: Band Bios

The area of band promotion…errr…embellishment, which was once the job of a media savvy press agent, today falls on the shoulders of whichever band member has a laptop. And those once-clever band bios have gone the way of quickly posted blogs and MySpace calendars. But one rule remains, be it written by a PR pro or just a guitarist: name-drop the biggest acts you’ve played with, no matter what capacity that might have been. So when Clipse and Sonic Youth are the only two bands name-checked by a group promoting a gig as big as the Pitchfork Festival, cynics wonder if it’s a deliberate effort to cover the broadest possible spectrum. That is, until those cynics listen to Professor Murder’s cut-and-paste, acidic drum and bass beats and realize that…somehow…Sonic Youth and Clipse actually are pretty decent comparisons — while at the same time sounding nothing like their engagingly spastic dance numbers.
