Lou Reed

lou_reedThere are plenty of great people who write dreadful songs, and there are plenty of groundbreaking musicians who aren’t the greatest of people. By many accounts, 67-year-old rock icon Lou Reed isn’t the most cordial of fellows. Reed has a long history of cantankerous relations with the press, with his bandmates, with other bands, and even with random passersby on the streets of New York City. But he also has an equally long history of unparalleled experimental and progressive albums whose influence on the greater music community can not be overstated. From laying proto-punk’s groundwork while fronting the legendary Velvet Underground to a fabled solo career that has spanned parts of five decades, Reed has been a multigenerational icon in more than just his own mind. And by joining Lollapalooza in support of his latest live album, The Creation of the Universe, he’s reminding a new generation why it all should still revolve around him.
