Les Savy Fav

Catching a glimpse of an overweight, half-naked bearded bald man covered in fake blood is shocking once. Seeing it twice is rare. Witnessing the spectacle for a third time must mean you’re on tour with NYC’s artful punk legends Les Savy Fav. And if that’s the case, it also means you’ve had your share of the band’s burning post-punk with the kind of lyrical edge and pointed musicianship that’s always razor-sharp enough to trim off a few of frontman Tim Harrington’s unmistakable follicles. Yet fans with a pension for theatrics also can have a keen eye for bullshit, and the staged mayhem could get old quickly if it weren’t…in fact…seemingly genuine each time the extroverted performer commanded the stage. But somehow it still is, and with each performance during more than a dozen years, the bold bald bard has managed to maintain his passion and his credibility — even when continuing to smear costume blood all over his hairy protruding belly.
