Franz Ferdinand

franz-ferdinandIt’s not that Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos is a compelling frontman because he’s slyly good-looking. Or that his booming voice sounds devilishly seductive throughout his band’s three excellently danceable LPs. Or that his love of skinny ties and fitted jeans leave him impeccably dressed. Or that he’s incredibly well read, with a knack for discussing his latest literature undertaking during interviews. Or that his culinary skills not only earned him his college degree, but also a regular food column in The Guardian which later led to his first book. No, it’s the fact that the 36-year-old is all of these things — all of the time — that makes Kapranos the Glasgow foursome’s most captivating member. But in the end, it’s Kapranos and company’s disco-driven guitar rock songs — and little else — that have pushed his band to chart-topping success, as displayed most recently on this year’s Tonight.
