Coheed and Cambria, ‘In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3′
By user • Jul 6th, 2004 • Category: Album Reviews
Columbia Records has found a formula that works: It snatches up buzz bands on smaller labels, slaps on a logo and re-issues an existing album.
So is the case with this New York foursome. Originally dropping last fall, “3” is now sold as new with a limited five-song EP. Having to battle other genre giants like Thursday, Coheed and Cambria will need all the help it can get to set itself apart. The interesting guitar play between Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever, coupled with double-tracked vocals make the comparison too blaring to avoid.
Yet Chris Bittner and Michael Birnbaum’s production replaces the band’s urgency with a sound not tame enough to break new ground, but subdued enough to ignore.
