Andreas Kapsalis Trio

There’s a certain school of thought that defines acoustic music as simplistic. According to this theory, there’s not much of a disconnect between a heartfelt performer strapping on a 6-string and that guy at the party who breaks out his roommate’s instrument several beers into the evening. Luckily, not all acoustic music is created equal. When done correctly, there’s something thoroughly genuine about the genre — whose masters employ it as a way to mold the most conventional of instruments into a raw exhibition of feeling. The Andreas Kapsalis Trio is an experimental acoustic ensemble that takes a drastic step away from that boozy romantic on the frat-room couch and a step towards the much more intelligent interplay of inventive guitars and solid percussion. Embracing the best elements of the acoustic world, the AK Trio is set to release its latest LP, Original Scores, this month.
