The first truly busy period for new releases surprisingly comes during the second half of January. At a time when most years distribute only a handful of meaningful new albums, 2009 dropped more than a half-dozen noteworthy LPs. The surge comes not a minute too late, as Derek Wright was in a consumer daze after a brush with Sham Wow greatness, something that made him yearn for a pocketbook.
